Newborn with colic?

My friends baby has just been diagnosed with colic and has not slept (both baby and mum) for over 3 days (and nights) - my daughter never had colic so don't know much about it and can't offer suggestions on things that might ease the little bubs... can all those mums that have had babies with colic offer any suggestions on things that have worked for you?
