What is the deal with this suppossed time-traveller, John Titor?

I recently came across some websites about John Titor, who is suppossedly the first recorded time traveller on record. His story was he was an American soldier from the year 2036 and the U.S. Army sent him back to the year 1975 to aquire a 5100 I.B.M. portable computer to link up to their computers in 2036. He also claimed that he stopped in the year 2000 to meet his two-year old self and to stop the Y2K crisis. While in the year 2000, he posted photos of his time machine on the web, explained how it worked, and conversed with people and answered questions from November, 2000 to March, 2001. He claimed that the U.S. will be in another Civil War, the seeds of which began in 2005 and will hit it's peak in 2012. He also claimed that WW3 happened in 2015 and was a one-day nuclear holocaust.(Russia was the enemy and 3 billion people died.) He claimed after this tragedy, most world powers were destroyed, the U.S. is divided into 5 sections, and people have to harvest to eat.
