Is it really worth getting a new PC not console?

I'm having the same dilemma. I used to be a PC gamer, but my PC is getting too old, so I decided to get an Xbox, for both the exclusive games, and it's friendlier price. But then my Dad offered me to get a new PC instead, and he would chip in. Now I'm torn in two. I want to play games like Read Dead Redemption, but it would be nice to play my PC games with higher graphic settings. I'm still leaning towards the Xbox, but I'm not sure. I guess I didn't help much...
